August 2009

Although the young people in the area are still enthusiastic about this project, after our lottery bid was unsuccessful work on it lapsed for a while due to a lack of committed adult support to help with the fund raising. However, a new group (calling itself SAVVY - Saxmundham And Villages Volunteer Youth) has recently been formed to reinvigorate youth facilities in the area, focussing initially on Seaman Avenue Park and the Memorial Field. A subgroup met on 11th August and things are starting to move again. If you would like to become involved, either as a potential user or to help with the fund raising, please contact Cllr Cheleigh Trotter-Langlois. We are still holding the funds raised to date but they aren't gathering much interest at present and it would be good to get them spent.

January 2007

We are currently waiting for a response from our bid for £45,000 from the Reaching Communities Lottery Fund. The panel are due to meet around mid-February and we should receive a response by the end of that month. If successful we would hope to have the new skatepark open by May 2007.

May 2006

The Town Council agreed at their meeting in September 2005 to build a skate park on the Memorial Field using Gravity Engineering of Southampton as our preferred supplier. On 8th April 06 the working party arranged a trip to Hemel Hempstead to visit the skate park which Gravity have recently built and we now have an active group of potential users working on finalising the design details. We are hoping for an initial response from our final application for funding shortly.

July 2005

A questionnaire was distributed at the end of June to all households in Saxmundham (1599 at the time of delivery.) 377 responses were received by the deadline of the 18th July. A summary of the results is given below. A report will now be prepared detailing these results and the funding position, to be presented to the next Policy & Resources Committee meeting to be held in the Webster Room behind the Market Hall at 7:15pm on Monday 5th September. This committee will then make a recommendation to the full Council meeting which will be held in the Market Hall at 7:15pm on Monday 12th September.
