750 Trees for the Queens Canopy

750 new trees for the 750th anniversary of Saxmundham’s Market Charter and for the Queens Canopy

Saxmundham Town Council are encouraging the residents of the Town to plant 750th trees to celebrate the anniversary of the Market Charter. This will be linked to the Queen’s Green Canopy  project which is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

If you would like to get involved and are planting a tree in 2022 please contact the Saxmundham Town Clerk to make sure your tree is counted.

If you have been to the Memorial Field recently you will have noticed that the tree planting has already begun. In January the Saxmundham Green Team volunteers, The 1st Saxmundham Scout Group and CYDS Yooth Booth planted more trees to extend The Community Orchard.  This is part of phase one of the Town Council planned improvements to Seaman Avenue Play Park and The Memorial Field.

I’d like to thank all the fantastic volunteers Ilona, Alex and Jessica Martin (pictured) and Haydn, Reuben, Isaac, Leo, Tom, James, Leeroy, Looby, Roger, John and everyone else who helped with the trees which were purchased by the Town Council. A full list of the fruit cultivars growing in the Community Orchard will be available soon on the Town Council website: www.saxmundham.org

If you are interested in joining Saxmundham Green Team and making the Town more attractive for people and wildlife, please contact the Town Clerk.

Best Wishes For 2022. Amy Rayner, Saxmundham Town Council Environment Co ordinater.
