Energy Projects
Energy Projects
The resources and conditions for energy projects in East Suffolk make this area favourable to several developers. Concerns have been raised about the significant number of projects proposed for the area and their cumulative impact.
Saxmundham Town Council is a statutory consultee for these Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and, as such, has an important role to play during the consultative and examination stages.
Governement guidance about NSIPs is available here: Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects: The stages of the NSIP process and how you can have your say – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and here: Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and the people and organisations involved in the process – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
The Town Council’s Energy Projects Steering Group comprises Councillors and skilled residents. They meet regularly to support the Town Council’s engagement with the energy project developers and to guide the Town Council through the NSIPs process.
National Grid are proposing to site three monolithic converter stations, named Sealink, Lion Link and Nautilus, on the outskirts of Saxmundham. The sections below provide links to these, and other, energy projects in the area together with links to the County Council’s and District Council’s dedicated webpages about NSIPs.
An Energy Projects Exhibition will be held on Saturday 16 November 2024 at the Market Hall, High Street, Saxmundham from 10:00am to 3:00pm to enable residents to ‘drop-in’ and speak to organisations to find out about the energy projects planned for this area. Invitees include National Grid, EDF Energy, Scottish Power, Saxmundham Against Needless Destruction, Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council, Saxmundham Town Council, Keslale-cum-Carlton Parish Council, Benhall and Sternfield Parish Council and Friston Parish Council. Please drop in for a friendly welcome and informal chat.
