Geraldine Barker
I’m Suffolk born and spent my childhood at Aldhurst Farm situated between Leiston and
Saxmundham before moving to Norfolk, then Oakham in Rutland. Some thirty-six years ago I returned to Suffolk with my two children and have lived in Saxmundham, near the High Street, for the past twenty-eight years.
After semi-retiring from working in company finance, administration and health and safety roles, during the past few years I’ve engaged with volunteer community work. I set up the local litter picking group, inaugurated the Memorial Trail in conjunction with the Town Council and volunteered with IP17 GNS, Saxmundham Museum and the local Poppy Appeal.
With a keen interest in the development of Saxmundham for the benefit of all, I am Chair of the Energy Projects Steering Group, and a member of the Events and Communications Committee, the Gannon Institute Management Committee, the Neighbourhood Planning Steering Group, and the Planning and Development Control Committee.
I have a passion for history and heritage and as a mature student, studied part-time with the University of Suffolk and graduated with a BA Honours in History in 2019.
